Garden update...pre-Spain

This is the garden on the balcony...we had some beautiful summer days pretty consistently before we packed our bags for Spain. So, the garden was living on the balcony full time. Unfortunately, there was a slight wind storm the day before we flew out and it blew over all my tomato plants...it was a sad moment, coming home that afternoon to find them all lying on the ground, many branches and stems broken. So the tomato plants took up residence in the kitchen again, but we kept the french doors propped open slightly, so they got fresh air each day. I also added more support with more 4' bamboo poles and garden "training" wire.

Here are the first peaks at what I have finally been able to deduce is the "moneymaker" tomato plant...These guys are getting pretty big now. There are a ton of small tomatoes on all four plants now, but this one was the early leader! Unfortunately, I don't think they will be turning red while Bev and Robin are visiting, but there will be plenty of red, juicy tomatoes for when mama and papa O'Connor are visiting next month.

My first little-itty-bitty beet. This one was competing with another one that was fully under the soil, so this one lost out... As for the bean...we've been averaging about 8-10/week. They are SO scrumptious! Very sweet and juicy! Can't wait for Mama and papa Kozelka to feast upon them...
